Jordan’s Point Park Amphitheater Improvements

Week of May 4, 2026

(Lexington, Virginia, April 30, 2026) – The City of Lexington, Virginia announces the next phase of improvements at Jordan’s Point Park will start the week of May 4th.

This next phase of investment will create a new riverside amphitheater with terraced seating and an ADA-accessible picnic area to enhance public use and enjoyment of the Maury River. Visitors to Jordan’s Point will begin to see the contractor, Randy Hostetter Excavating, mobilizing next week. The project is expected to last into late July with clearing and grading lasting most of May. The amphitheater seating will be installed in June, and the final furnishings will be installed in late June and July.

During construction, portions of the park near the work zone will be temporarily closed for public safety. Signage and barriers at Jordan’s Point Park will direct visitors. Access to unaffected park trails and areas will remain open when safe. The City and contractor ask that visitors please strictly observe posted signs and follow directions from on-site crews to ensure everyone’s safety. Visitors and neighbors can expect construction noise and equipment activity during weekday work hours.

The final phase of improvements at Jordan’s Point Park are slated for completion in the next fiscal year. Next year’s project will involve realigning the driveway to the boat ramp to further enhance safe access to the Maury River.

In addition to a rendering showing the project vision, the attached sketch shows the limits of construction activities for the upcoming construction season.

John Muir famously said in his classic work Steep Trails, “But in every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” This project is part of a broader effort to help all residents, including those with mobility issues, forge deeper connections with nature along the Maury River. Public Works Director Patrick Madigan said, “We hope all members of the public will take the opportunity to connect with the Maury that this new investment will provide.”
