Lexington Community is Saddened by the Passing of Mayor Frank Friedman

     (Lexington, Virginia, July 3, 2026) – The Lexington community is grieving deeply from the news that Mayor Frank Friedman passed away overnight.

     Mayor Friedman has served as Lexington’s mayor since 2016, and prior service included terms on the Lexington City Council and the Lexington City School Board.                                    

     Lexington Vice Mayor Marylin Alexander said on behalf of Lexington City Council, “As the community mourns the loss of our dear mayor, the outpouring of heartfelt sentiments are true examples of what he desired a true “Beloved Community” to look, feel, and sound like. Because of the legacy he bestowed upon us, he would expect us to live each day as though it were our last and express our kind words and deeds to one another. Just like Frank.”

     City Manager Tom Carroll confirmed that as of this writing, details about any funeral arrangements are not yet known. City offices were already scheduled to be closed today in honor of the nation’s 250th Independence Day.
